Doctors under their umbrella body, the Uganda Medical Association (UMA) have agreed to suspend their strike until 16 December, 2017 after thorough negotiations with government.
The doctors voted to suspend the industrial action during their Annual Medics General Meeting which was held today.
Dr Ekwaro Obuku, association president asked doctors to resume work between now and December 16, when they expect to conclude negotiations with the government on the demands to improve the general welfare of medical personnel.
State Minister for Planning and Finance David Bahati who represented government told doctors that they are now ready to work with them and will announce a salary increment for all medics in public hospitals by December.
“You have brought us to our knees and now we are asking you to work with us. We have identified UMA as a body that we can work with to address all your demands.”
