The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has mourned fallen veteran soldier Sgt (rtd) Stanley Sempagala, aka Sgt Kifulugunyu who passed on yesterday.
“The UPDF family has learnt with shock of the death of veteran WO1 (Rtd) Stanley Sempagala who passed on Tuesday 14 November, 2017,” Deputy UPDF Spokesperson Lt Col Deo Akiiki stated partly in a statement.
Lt Col Akiiki says Sgt Kifulugunyu joined the NRA liberation struggle in the early 1980’s and participated in the bush war. However he remains specifically remembered for boosting the morale of the fighters through his patriotic songs.
He further notes, “UPDF and the entire country had continued to enjoy his patriotic songs to motivate soldiers and the general public,”
As a sign of appreciation for his services, Lt. Col Akiiki says president Yoweri Museveni during the 31st anniversary of marking liberation day on 26January, 2017 in Masindi District, awarded Sgt Kifulugunyu a Luwero Triangle Medal.
The fallen ex-serviceman collapsed on Tuesday at his Home in Kawempe a Kampala Suburb.
According to Kifulugunyu’s wife Sauda Nalubega, her husband collapsed after a heavy rain pour, he was picked and rushed to – Mulago Refferal Hospital where he died. It is believed that Kifulugunyu was epileptic and he used to get these attacks regularly.
