City Hall Court has granted incarcerated journalists Stanley Ndawula and Robert Ndawula bail.
Stanley, the CEO of The Investigator and his colleague were arrested last Tuesday night after being interrogated at Police’s Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department (CIID) over computer misuse related cases.
According to the charge sheet signed by Mike Chibita, the Director of Public Prosecutions, the journalists are accused of libel contrary to sections 179,180,181 and 182 of the Penal Code Act.
They were also charged with offensive communication contrary to section 25 of the Computer Misuse Act of 2011.
It is alleged that between September and October, Ndawula repeatedly and with intent to disturb the peace, quiet and privacy of Gen.Kale Kayihura wrote stories on social media alleging that the police boss was under arrest.
“He wrote that the military had cordoned off his home and that the IGP was engaged in criminal activities like murder, kidnap and espionage whereas not,”says the DPP.
This comes at a backdrop when on Friday, the Nakawa Chief Magistrate Noah Sajjabi ordered police bosses including Gen Kayihura to produce the two journalists in court if they have charges or be released immediately unconditionally.
