Rwanda propagandist Andrew Mwenda has taken Timothy Kalyegira to Rwanda to witness firsthand the “miracles” happening in the southern neighbour.
Kalyegira, the founder of Facebook commentaries and photography page, Kampala Express, is one of the leading critics of Rwanda development model, which Mwenda is always full of praise, since President Paul Kagame ascended to power.
Although Kalyegira and Mwenda are close friends, the duo usually have ideological confrontations given the different outlook the two have on the politics and socio-economic models of several African countries, particularly Uganda and Rwanda.
Kalyegira, largely despises the leadership in Uganda and Rwanda and thinks former President Amin Dada could have done better given the same conditions. However, Mwenda a long time admirer of Kagame, and an associate of Museveni regime, thinks the Rwandan leader has made a miracle in Africa.
Rwanda is one of the most cited development models in Africa alongside Mauritius, Botswana and Ghana.
Once the deal to visit Rwanda come through, Kalyegira an advocate for transparency told his followers what he was doing in Rwanda and who facilitated his trip.
On Monday morning, he posted, “I’m in Kigali, Rwanda right now on a photo tour for the Kampala Express. Andrew Mwenda dragged me to Kigali allegedly because I take nice pictures and so could do justice to the sights and scenes of the place. I hope to cover the life, people and places of this city. I took a few last night. That’s WhatsApp this morning (pun unintended).”
