The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Kale Kayihura has revealed that he is baffled by the way people have paid much attention to an arrest case of his top police officers.
While appearing on NBS TV’s Topical Discussion show on Wednesday morning, the police boss said arresting top police officers and arraigning them in military court is normal since many high profile officers have ever appeared before court martial but never received such kind of attention like on the current case.
“There’s nothing out of the ordinary. Police officers or military officers appear before the court and it’s normal,” Kayihura started adding that, “The magnitude this case has acquired baffles me. We’ve seen high profile officers appear before the court-martial but they’ve never received this kind of attention,”
On the alleged issue of being under investigation by the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), Gen Kayihura said he is not aware of it.
Last week, nine people including five senior police commanders were arraigned before the Court Martial and charged with kidnap, illegal possessions of guns and extortion, yet, there is speculation over their involvement in the number of murders which rocked this country, without a trace of the assailants.
The officers included; Commandant of Police Professional Standard Unit, Senior Commissioner of Police Joel Aguma, Senior Superintendent of Police Nixon Agasirwe, former commander of Police Special Operations, Sgt Abel Tumukunde under the Flying Squad, Assistant Superintendent of Police Magada under Crime Intelligence and Faisal Katende under Flying Squad.
