Former presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye together with FDC Publicity Secretary Ingrid Turinawe, party Presidential Candidate Patrick Amuriat and Rukungiri district councillor Innocent Tashobya have on Wednesday morning appeared before the Rukungiri Chief Magistrates Court after spending almost a week behind Nagalama Police bars over holding an illegal age limit rally which led to the death of one person.
Besigye and other FDC officials , who through the last four days were detained at Nagalama Police Station, were yesterday moved to Rukungiri to appear before a court within the jurisdiction of the crimes.
On Monday, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago filed a petition for the release of the opposition leaders, and they were expected to appear before the Nakifuma court as per Magistrate Sylvia Nvanungi’s directive on Tuesday.
However, when Lukwago tried to deliver the magistrates directive to the Nagalama Police DPC Jessica Naawe, she ignored it and refused to receive it.
