Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC kicked off defence of the FUFA Women Elite League with a convincing 4-0 win over Western United.
Playing at their famous home ground dubbed the ‘Valley Ground’ where they have not lost a league game; all eyes were on the champions.
Western United headed into the game with a lot of confidence but little did they know what would hit them at the end of the 90 minutes.
With goalkeeper Aturo Ruth, Yudaya Nakayenze, Favor Nambatya and Hasifah Nassuuna all regular players at Kawempe last season gone to other clubs this season, Head coach Ayub Khalifan had to scratch his head for new ideas.
He assembled a team that managed to pick up three points with ease in their opening game in Kawempe.
Kawempe’s goals were scored by Juliet Nalukenge (2), Naddunga Sharon and Habiba Namaalwa.
In the other fixtures of the day Wakiso Hills drew 1-1 with Kampala Queens. Mable Kusasira saved the day for the Queens who had conceded an own goal by Lillian Okello.
Ajax Queens dominated the match but failed to beat She Corporates’ Fatuma Matovu between the posts. The match ended goalless.
