Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo on Saturday sworn in as Deputy Chief Justice at State House Entebbe.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni called for discipline in the judiciary and other arms of government.
He also ordered concerned parties to address the issues of case backlog.
“What destabilises society is killing. Murder, rape and defilement should be prioritised because of their sensitivity. Commercial cases should also be prioritised because there is need for the economy to grow,” he said.
President Museveni was reliably informed by the Attorney General, William Byaruhanga that the Justice Service Commission is actively interviewing Judges to address backlog of cases in the Judiciary.
Justice Owiny officially replaced Justice Steven Kavuma whose tenure ended on Friday after clocking the retirement age.
