Ahead of the highly awaited season opener of the Azam Uganda Premier League tomorrow, Vipers Sports Club has suffered a major setback.
Midfield maestro Moses Waiswa has been eliminated from the team to face Bright Stars in a crucial clash at the champions stadium in Mwererwe.
Head coach Jorge Miguel Da Costa confirmed that the midfielder has not trained with the team for the past three days and will not be available for the opener.
“He has a knee problem and will not be able to travel with the team on Tuesday.” revealed Da Costa.
Besides Waiswa, left winger Duncan Sseninde is also doubtful after sustaining a leg injury during Sunday’s training. Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye is back and likely to make the match day squad after overcoming a thigh problem.
The Venoms will be seeking to make a good start in the league when they face their opponents whom they failed to beat in their previous meetings.
“Our goal is to have the best season. So, we will go into this game to fight for the best results,’ midfielder Tadeo Lwanga commented.
Vipers strengthened its squad in the transfer window to favourably compete this season bringing in eight new players in Tadeo Lwanga, Baden Mujahid, Mousa Mbayi, Tom Masiko, Steven Mukwala, Yayo Lutimba and youngster Ashraf Bamuturaki.
Da Costa is expected to field a strong side and will be spoilt for choice as all players have been training well.
The last two trips to Mwererwe have produced only a single goal, a header from Deus Bukenya that saw the Venoms triumph 0-1 in 2015/16 season.
Meanwhile, the Kitende based side will count on their strikers Tonny Odur, Erisa Ssekisambu, Congolese born forward Mousa Mbayi, Steven Mukwala, Pius Wangi and Baden Mujahid to unlock Bright Stars defence.
