Days after Prophet Elvis Mbonye’s mind blowing act of making his followers ‘lick’ his shoes as a way of honouring him, ethics and integrity minister Fr. Simon Lokodo has revealed to put an end to all ‘fake’ religious institutions and individuals exploiting believers.
Lokodo’s statement came after on Thursday when Aruu South MP Odonga Otto questioned the regulation of churches which are allegedly defrauding members of the public.
The minister said government has noted with concern the growing number of different churches and efforts are being made to regulate them.
“Government is working on ensuring that whoever comes out as an apostle, a pastor, a reverend, a prophet must have some clearance from a mainstream church and have a clear background and history,” Lokodo told MPs.
He further added that government is formulating a religious faith based organization policy whose other role will be to register and to de-register the religious faith based organization, the pastors, churches and institutions that defraud, and have what he called ill practices.
