Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) has refuted media claims that it plans to deploy in Kenya after the just ended general elections.
On Sunday 13 August, Redpepper newspaper alleged that the army is on standbuy to support security operations in Kenya.
UPDF spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire denounced the allegation saying that it is totally false, alarmist and misleading.
” It is also not true that we deployed after the last election and evacuated the Kenyan president to Uganda,” said Brig. Karemire.
“There are absolutely no such preparations and no team of officers has been sent out to Kenya in preparation for such,” he added.
He further revealed that the Uganda government has neither received such request on deployment nor is there a situation that warrants it.
Meanwhile, the army takes strong exception to reckless reporting and it will consider taking legal measures to stop this wayward and irresponsible reporting.
