Kampala Capital City Authority-KCCA council has resolved to suspend two law enforcement officers in connection to the death of a street vendor on Friday last week.
Olive Basemera, a mother of three, drowned in Nakivubo Channel while fleeing from KCCA Law enforcement officers.
Basemera’s death drew public outrage and condemnation prompting the Kampala State Minister, Benny Namugwanya to offer a public apology. She called for calm, saying police would investigate the matter to its logical conclusion.
On Wednesday, the KCCA council passed a resolution suspending Robert Kituma, the KCCA Chief Law Enforcement Officer and the Acting Supervisor of the Enforcement Team, Godwin Katuguma.
The two are serving police officers attached to the KCCA Law Enforcement team. However, the KCCA technical wing has failed to explain how they were recruited on the KCCA law enforcement team.
