Uganda Cranes could have drawn goalless against South Sudan in the first of the 2018 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) qualifier but team captain Geoffrey Serunkuma is still confident the team will get the desired result at home.
The Cranes take on South Sudan’s Bright stars in the return leg on Saturday 22nd July at StarTimes stadium, Lugogo.
Serunkuma believes the only thing that stopped them from winning away in Juba was luck but he is hopeful they can complete the job at home.
I have the hope that we shall get the result we want here at home. We played well but luck evaded us that day. Personally I had the chance to score from a penalty but still I failed to convert
Serunkuuma told www.kccafc.co.ug on Monday afternoon moments before the team’s afternoon training session at Lugogo, he also added.
Everyone in the team knows the challenge ahead and what we want to achieve, so the focus in the remaining days will be to try and work on being efficient
When asked about Uganda cranes playing the game at StarTimes stadium, the clinical forward believes this is an added advantage to Uganda because him and his KCCA FC teammates are used to the facility.
Most of us on the team have been training and playing here and thus we will not have issues with the turf. This will only be an advantage to us
The winner on aggregate between Uganda and South Sudan will take on either Rwanda or Tanzania to determine the team that will represent the CECAFA region at next year’s CHAN final tournament in Kenya.
