City tycoon Godfrey Kirumira through his lawyers Tumusime, Kabega and Company wants to sue the state-owned newspaper, The New Vision, for defamation after it cited him as one of Sudhir’s colleagues in the shs400bn fraud case.
The lawyers quote “New Vision of Wednesday July, 12, 2017 Vol. 032 No. 0138 at page 3 under heading “Crane Bank Fraud” and also New Vision of Tuesday, July 11, 2017 Vol. 32 No. 0137 at Page 3, under the heading “Senior Judge To Handle Crane Bank fraud case”” where their client (Kirumira) is cited as Sudhir’s associate in the massive fraud.
The ‘Intention to Sue’ document dated July 12 says the stories the newspaper published are false since their client is neither a shareholder or a Director in Crane Bank and has not in his business dealings involved in any fraudulent transactions.
Kirumira, according to the law firm, is not mentioned in the suit against Sudhir at the Commercial Court in Kampala.
Kirumira’s lawyers further state that the stories have “caused him to be shunned in society” and has also “hurt his business.”
The prominent businessman has since demanded from Vision Group an “immediate retraction” of the articles and an “apology” by Saturday July 15, 2017 or face legal action.
