Former presidential candidate Maureen Kyalya has urged Ugandans to focus on Uganda but not on President Yoweri Museveni so that they can understand the importance of lifting the presidential age limit.
According to Kyalya, the presidential age limit is discriminative yet article 21 of the 1995 constitution denounces discrimination on all grounds except age.
She says age limits lower or upper are discriminative and therefore against the fundamental human rights of Ugandans.
Kyalya states that if the ruling party NRM removes the upper age limit without removing the lower age limit then she encourages youths in Uganda to go to war against Museveni but if NRM lifts both lower and upper age limits then the whole Uganda should celebrate and give credit for overcoming against discrimination against the youth and old.
She wrote on her Facebook page;
REMOVAL OF UGANDA PRESIDENTIAL AGE LIMITS: LETS FOCUS ON UGANDA NOT ON #M7.
For the first time in 30 years I have read Article 21 of the Uganda Constitution may be you should read it too.
The Article denounces discrimination against Ugandans on all grounds EXCEPT AGE. DID ANY ONE KNOW THIS??????
Age Limits lower or upper are discriminative and therefore against the fundamental human rights of Ugandans.
On REFLECTION AND HINDSIGHT: Rather than focussing on #M7 I call upon all of you to focus on Uganda as a whole.
If #NRM removes UPPER AGE LIMITS without removing LOWER AGE LIMITS then the youths of Uganda should go to war against #NRM in all forums possible including the national and international human rights courts for “Direct Discrimination Against YOUTHS” on grounds of their age.
But on the other hand should #NRM lift both Lower and Upper Age Limits then the whole Uganda should celebrate and give them credit for overcoming discrimination against the Young and the Old. According to my recollection Jesus was 30 years and Muhammed may be alot younger; King David a teenager and Prophet Moses a Youth; King Daudi Chwa and King Oyo babies when they became leaders of humans and all have done a tremendous job in our history. I CALL UPON UGANDA MPs TO DENOUNCE DISCRIMINATION ON AGE GROUNDS FOR BOTH THE YOUTH AND THE OLD IF AT ALL THEY CHANGE THE LAW. I AM NOT WORRIED ABOUT OUT COMPETING #M7 AND #NRM AGE OR NO AGE LIMITS. BUT I STAND TO BE COUNTED FOR CONDEMNING DISCRIMINATION AGAINST UGANDANS ON ANY GROUNDS INCLUDING AGE. AN 18 YEARS OLD QUALIFIED TO BECOME MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT AND THEREFORE PRESIDENT TOO.
