Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has arrested three suspects who were smuggling ivory out of Uganda.
The suspects, who included a police officer, were arrested by URA Mbale Enforcement team.
According to URA, the smugglers were nabbed at Munkaga trading center, Mbale Eastern Uganda.
Ivory trade (including export and import) is prohibited in the country.
The tax regulatory body has hitherto thwarted many attempts to smuggle ivory out of Uganda.
Recently, URA handed over 176 pieces of Ivory weighing 162 kilograms, 189 pieces of Warthog and Hippo teeth weighing 38 kilograms, 19 Monitor Lizard skin weighing three kilograms and three animal bones totaling three kilograms to Uganda Wildlife Authority after impounding them from smugglers.
