A team of Soroti district and university bosses have visited the site where the construction of the university is ongoing to assess the progress of the ninth public tertiary institution.
A team comprising the Resident District Commissioner of Soroti district Kawooya Isaac, DISO, University Vice Chancellor, University Engineer, and University Security Officer visited the constroversial construction site on Thursday afternoon.
According to the RDC Kawooya, the team was assessing the progress of construction of Soroti University infrastructure which should be ushering in its first bunch of students this academic year starting in August.
However Soroti University readability is still in doubt after some members of the community refused to vacate their land part of which is claimed by the university and it is wanted to construct university playgrounds.
The crash over the land has caused university administrators and local leaders to seek other avenues to avert the crisis.
Recently it was agreed that an independent surveyor and valuer be hired to establish whether it was the university encroaching on the land of locals or the locals were living on the said land illegally. The findings would guide the management and local leaders to compensate the bonafide occupants accordingly.
