The state Minister for Environment Mary Gorretti Kitutu Kimono alongside the Executive Director of National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) Dr Tom Okurut , Ibanda Woman MP Jovrine Kaliisa Kyomukama and the CEO of Little Hands Go Green Joseph Masembe have today flagged off the World Environment Day Celebration Caravan at NEMA offices in Kampala.
The team that set off will be planting trees along the route to Ibanda as part of the drive to bring to life this year’s World Environment Day theme of “CONNECT WITH NATURE”.
The brilliant team has so far planted trees in some parts of Mpigi, Buwama as well as Nkozi.
Some of the schools which have so far joined the noble cause include Mpigi UMEA primary school, St Kizito Mpigi primary school.
There will be a series of activities ahead of the highly anticipated World Environment Day 2017 where President Yoweri Museveni will be the chief guest, tree planting activities in Mbarara, Masaka and Ibanda and an Environmental Run in Ibanda on Sunday among others????.
World Environment Day (WED) occurs on 5 June every year, is the United Nation’s principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment.
First held in 1974, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues from marine pollution and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime.
WED has grown to become a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, WED has a new theme that major corporations, NGOs, communities, governments and celebrities worldwide adopt to advocate environmental causes.
