The daughter of President Robert Mugabe, Bona Mugabe (now Bona Chikore), has been appointed to the Board of Censors in Zimbabwe. The board regulates public entertainment content in the country. The new board was announced by Home Affairs Minister Ignatius Chombo yesterday in terms of the Censorship and Entertainment Control Act Chapter 10: 4.
Bona, who is 27 years old, is the youngest member of the board. Other board members include Police Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba and Aneas Chigwedere.
Bona’s appointment follows the appointment of her husband Simba Chikore to the position of Air Zimbabwe Chief Operating Officer in October 2016.
The board will control and regulate the media and film industry, and focus on the “rampant abuse of social media while also taking into consideration that general elections are set for next year”
The 11-member board has representatives of church groups, the legal and accounting professions and traditional leaders.
Mrs Mugabe-Chikore studied in Singapore, and has a Masters in Management, specialising in banking and finance.
