Few days back, photos of veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda talking to presidents, Yoweri Museveni and Paul Kagame of Rwanda while pocketing surfaced on social media thus sparking mixed reactions among people.
A section of the general public perceived Mwenda’s pocketing habit while talking to people as a sign of disrespect.
However, The Independent Magazine CEO has rubbished the disrespect claims saying he doesn’t see anything wrong with pocketing while talking to a president.
“These pictures have been a subject of intense debate on social media. I would like to know what is wrong with talking to a president while pocketing. How does it show disrespect? Who codified that and where? Does keeping one’s hands outside of their pockets while talking to a president really mean you respect them? Are we not addressing form rather than substance?” Mwenda posted on his social media.
