Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the South Sudanese National Bureau of Standards in order to standardize and confirm the quality of products which are sent in South Sudan.
Ben Manyindo the Executive Director of UNBS signed the MoU with South Sudan’s representative Dr. Mary Gordon in Kampala today.
Manyindo said that the purpose of the memorandum is to cross check whether the quality of products exported to South Sudan are of a good quality according to East African community standards.
“We are trying to limit fake products from entering Uganda or South Sudan,” Manyindo said.
Meanwhile, this comes at a moment when UNBS is trying as much as possible to eliminate fake products from the Ugandan market.
Few days ago the regulatory body raided some shops in the city centre seizing and arresting traders for selling fake products to customers who had earlier complained to UNBS.
