Dr Kizza Besigye will not share tips with Dr Stella Nyanzi on how to stay strong while in jail, as prisons officials have denied him access.
Nyanzi was recently remanded to Luzira Prison but of recent prison authorities have denied her visitors access.
Kizza Besigye who went to check on the Makerere academic was stopped from entering the prison. Besigye who has been in and out of Luzira on several occasions, tweeted on Friday afternoon, “Tried and failed to visit Dr Stella Nyanzi, a Prisoner of Conscience, at Luzira Prison. My thoughts with her & her family.”
While he was there on Friday morning, officials at the entrance of the prison’s women wing asked him wait as they “consult big people on whether he should be allowed to enter or not”.
The prisons official told Besigye he cannot access Nyanzi because Friday was not a day to see prisoners and Besigye as a former inmate should know that better.
“We can only allow you inside if you get clearance from Prisons headquarters,” the prisons official identified as Bwambale said.
Besigye says he wanted to encourage Dr Stella Nyanzi not to “give up on the fight but be strong as the struggle continues.”
He added, “I have been in such situations several times and I understand what she is going through. I come here to encourage her, advise her and see the situation she is in and how I can offer my support”.
However Dr Besigye managed to see Mubarak Munyagwa MP Kawempe South who was remanded to Luzira for fleecing city businessman John Baptist Maali of sh100 million.
