Former presidential candidate Maureen Waluube Kyalya has warned opposition members that the just announced SIM cards verification and registration is a trap by government.
According to Kyalya, there is an illegal phone tapping taking place in Uganda and if you register you actually render yourselves to be kidnapped through tracking and to become susceptible to criminal charges from misinterpreted even doctored phone conversations.
“If you all refuse to register your sims you cannot be compelled by law. But there is illegal phone tapping taking place in Uganda and if you register you actually render yourselves to be kidnapped through tracking and to become susceptible to criminal charges from misinterpreted even doctored phone conversations,” Kyalya stated.
Kyalya says If you someone is critique to NRM he is safer texting each other even using social media because it cannot be proved beyond reasonable doubt that you wrote anything but your voice is conclusive proof you cannot hide from.
“We all have a right to privacy but NRM is trying to run Uganda as though we were all puppies in need of milk,”
She has further advised opposition members and the general public to desist from the exercise because it’s against the law.
“ If you can, keep away from this exercise. We are so disunited but otherwise we would all peacefully protest against it. There is no single country in the world that forces citizens to register pay as you go sims. It just feels like Uganda has turned into a prison now and everyone has to be on roll call all the time. How did we get this far?” Kyalya inquired.
Early this week, Uganda Communication Commission put up a seven day ultimatum for all Ugandans to verify their SIM cards or face disconnection.
