Busitema University Vice chancellor Prof. Mary Okwakol has closed its Soroti Campus following an unending students’ strike.
For the past one week, students at the campus have been striking over a number of concerns, among them mismanagement of guild fee, contentious elections for the new guild president and tuition increments.
The irate students accused Prof Okwakol, also the chairperson of Uganda National Examination Board and the entire campus administration of ignoring their concerns.
The students also accused the University’s top body of remotely operating the campus.
On Wednesday afternoon students killed and roasted the university livestock, a situation that forced the University’s top body to close the campus.
Vice Chancellor Mrs Okwakol confirmed the University’s top management decision “until further notice.”
The affected faculties include; Faculty of health science Mbale, faculty of engineering Busitema campus, faculty of science, Nagongera and faculty of natural resources Namasagali among others.
