National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has taken over water supply in Kumi and Pallisa towns. The two towns in Eastern Uganda are water stressed. Before the NWSC takeover, Kumi had been receiving 1hr of water supply thrice a week. Pallisa did not have piped water supply after a private operator abandoned operations two years ago.
NWSC engineers are refurbishing the old system, building new distribution networks and new installations to improve supply reliability in Pallisa. Two boreholes in Akadot and Mbale Road are now back in service.
In Kumi, leaking reservoirs have been repaired and two motorised boreholes in Wiggins and Esunget zone have been reactivated. Work has started to drill an additional borehole to boost water supply,
