Rehema Watongola has won the NRM primaries ahead of Kamuli Municipality elections.
Watongola got 5351 votes thus defeating five other contenders with her nearest competitor Masitula Namatovu polling 2477 votes.
The other contenders; Samuel Walujjo got 296 votes, Godfrey Mwesige 131, Sanubi Namusisi 145 and Ceasar Lukalu trailed with 109 votes.
This comes after High Court in Jinja annulled the election of NRM’s Watongola and declared Kamuli Municipality MP seat vacant in a ruling last year.
Court ruled that, there was substantial evidence indicating that Watongola lacked the requisite academic qualifications to contest for MP seat.
However, in 2016, Watongola sat for A’ Level, and she has since been cleared by the Electoral Commission (EC) to contest again.
Nominations for the Kamuli Municipality by-election will be held on March 23rd. In yet another battle for the seat, Wantogola, will face-off with Salaamu Musumba, the eastern region Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) vice chairperson.
