A group of discontented journalists stormed the offices of the Uganda Journalists Association on Saturday morning , to protest against what they called, their leaders reluctance to fight for their rights.
The journalists protest comes at a moment after the Buganda Road Court found a former police commander, Joram Mwesigye guilty of assaulting journalist to a now defunct WBS TV called Andrew Lwanga.
The journalists were unhappy with the Shs5 million that the court ordered the police officer to pay as damages, saying it was not a deterrent.
Mwesigye has been accused of seriously assaulting Lwanga and damaging his video camera in January 2015.
The officer was also accused of damaging a khaki trouser belonging to Joseph Ssettimba a journalist working with
Bukedde TV, thereby leaving him half naked with his inner closes exposed to the public.
The fracas happened near Florino Bar and Guest House along Namirembe Road in Kampala while covering
unemployed youth group that was matching to Naguru police headquarters to seek permission from IGP Kale
Kayihura for the different rallies in January 2015.
