A close associate to Lubaga south MP Kato Lubwama has revealed that the legislator is planning to expand his business empire to alcohol brewing.
The source told Watchdog that Lubwama, a self styled controversial MP, has told his friends that he has identified alcohol to be a profitable business and that was why he was going into it. According to Kato, he had been taken aback by Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze who was pushing for the regulation of the alcohol business in the country.
Lubwama whose term as an MP has already earned him a television station, said, he had resolved to fight Nambooze’s bill at all cost if she had pushed through with it.
Lubwama says Ugandans are drunkards, from the elite in Kololo to the illiterates in Pader, Kisoro or Kalangala, all share their love for alcohol.
Nambooze has argued that alcohol selling should be regulated to keep a productive workforce in good shape, mentally and physically, so as to concentrate on building the country. She further argued that those who get incapacitated due to alcohol should be treated from the fund charged from the alcohol industry.
However, some MPs defeated the good willed Bill instead of improving it, leaving alcohol consumption and production at the mercy of profit minded business people like Kato Lubwama.
