Inspectors from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) together with Environment Protection Force (EPF) have started on the restoration process of over six kilometres of Tochi Wetland system, in Omoro District.
The Wetland system especially in the villages of Kalam – Ominya, Bobi Subcounty had been fenced off for more than a year by a one Okecha Walter, hence restricting and denying the Community access to wetlands and catchment’s River Tochi. Mr. Oketcha had failed to heed to compliance notices and restoration orders from Omoro District Officials.
Inspectors are removing all the poles, chains, locks and barbed wires that had been installed, to enable the community members access and use the ecosystem services that the wetland offers.
