The Ministry of Health has released the burial program for the late Dr. Margaret Mungherera who succumbed to cancer on Saturday last week in India.
According to the ministry, Mungherera’s body remains will be flown back home Tuesday, 7th February 2017 at 2pm aboard Emirates Airline.
There will be a Funeral Service on Thursday, 9th February at All Saints Cathedral starting at 10.00am.
Vigil will be at the deceased parents’ home in Mpererwe , Kampala.
Then the deceased will be laid to rest at her ancestral home in Butaleja on Saturday 11th February at midday.
Dr. Mungherera is to be remembered for her selfless service in the Health Sector where she served for over 3 decades. Her contribution and passionate advocacy towards the welfare of both medical workers and patients is well recognized by the whole country and the world at large.
She was the first African woman to head the World Medical Association.
She also served in Uganda’s civil service, largely at Mulago national hospital, for about 30 years before she retired in 2015. She was a strong advocate for the welfare of medical workers which naturally led her to be president of the Uganda Medical Association, and sat on boards of several medical organizations.
