Dr Margaret Mungherera has died. The iconic medical consultant who rose through ranks to be a recognised medic globally, passed on in India. She was 59 years old.
The psychiatrist who hailed from Butaleja, was a senior consultant psychiatrist and medical administrator who served as World Medical Association president between October 2013 to October 2014.
Mugherera served in Uganda’s civil service, largely at Mulago national hospital, for about 30 years before she retired in 2015. She was a strong advocate for the welfare of medical workers which naturally led her to be president of the Uganda Medical Association, and sat on boards of several medical organizations.
