The Busoga clan leaders have declined the appointment of their King William Gabula as an Ambassador for Special Duties in the office of the president.
In an extra ordinary meeting of the court of Isabakungania and executive members of Busoga Clan Leaders Assembly held on 2 February, 2017 at Bugembe, a decision was reached that it was not reasonable or correct for the Isebantu the Kyabazinga to be placed in a position that may require, compel and or oblige the king to take instructions other than from the Olwekobaano Lwa Busoga , the Royal chiefs’ council or the clan leaders court.
“It is not reasonable or correct for the Isebantu the Kyabazinga to be placed in a position that may require, compel and or oblige His Royal Highnes to take instructions other than from the Olwekobaano Lwa Busoga , the Royal chiefs’ council or the clan leaders court,” The leaders noted in a statement.
They however, agreed that as Gabula in person , Busoga and Uganda have someone of high integrity , high sense of responsibility and purpose; one eager to transform one’s people from poverty to middle income income level but the king’s current status of being a traditional leader doesn’t give him way to get involved in partisan politics.
“The appointment is inconsistent with the constitutional position implied in the legislation above mentioned which bars a Cultural leader to engage in partisan politics, have or exercise any administrative, legislative or executive powers of government or local government,” angry leaders said.
Recently, during ambassadors reshuffle, President Yoweri Museveni appointed 37 ambassadors and kyabazinga was among them.
