Former CPS DPC Aaron Baguma who has been wanted by court over the murder of Betty Katusabe has turned himself in. After surrendering himself to Buganda Road Magistrates Court, Baguma who has been wanted for weeks, was whisked away to Kigo prison on remand.
Baguma surrendered a few hours after late Betty Katusabe’s family wrote to the Director of Public Prosecutions asking that his name be dropped from the charge sheet.
Katusabe was allegedly killed by the car dealer Muhammad Ssebuufu, and former CPS DPC Aaron Baguma, is dragged into the case having abated crime.
However, the family say they have lost interest prosecuting the police man.
Maseruka Ephraim Epafura, writing on behalf of Katusabe’s family, told the Director of Public Prosecutions that after soul searching, the family had decided to withdraw the case against SP Aaron Baguma since he had done everything in his power for get justice for their sister.
The family gave four grounds for dropping Baguma:
1. It was Baguma who uncovered the rot at the police as some officers wanted the killers of their sister to walk away scot-free.
2. Baguma helped the family assemble witnesses despite threats
3. Baguma helped them access IGP Kale Kayihura when investigators were allegedly compromised
4. Baguma arrested suspected Sebuufu who was planning to escape from the country.
