President Museveni’s ally President Edgar Lungu has won his reelection as Zambian president in a hotly contested race with closest rival Hakainde Hichilema of the UPND.
Lungu beat Hichilema by 100, 530 to secure the required 50%+1 threshold. Lungu has been declared winner by Zambia’s election commission boss chairperson Justice Esau Chulu with 1, 860, 877 which is 52% of the total valid votes while Hichilema managed to get 1, 760, 347.
Lungu is a close ally of Museveni and has visited Kampala more times in one term than the past Zambian presidents.
