Retired Bishop of Lugazi, Mathias Ssekamanya, has said prodigal priest Jacinto Kibuuka was rightfully expelled by his Archbishop Cyprian Lwanga because he left no option but send him packing.
Ssekamanya told a congregation gathered at MP Betty Nambooze’s thanksgiving service in Mukono that Dr Lwanga briefed the central province house of bishops comprising Masaka, Kiyinda Mityana, Kasana Luwero, Lugazi and Kampala on the reasons he showed Kibuuka the exit door and they found them valid.
The bishop emeritus says all bishops in the province were behind Dr Lwanga since Kibuuka defied all possible laws governing priests in the church. He however said if Kibuuka reforms and wants to return to the church, the door was still open.
Ssekamanya said charismatic priests should operate under the stipulated Catholic doctrine and not form their own doctrine.
On July 12, 2016, Dr Lwanga expelled Kibuuka, and stopped him from representing the Catholic church after he gave him platforms to address his issues but refused to take advantage of them.
“Archbishop Lwanga followed the right procedure,” says Ssekamanya. “There was disobedience to the rightful ecclesiastical authority, and abused ecclesiastical powers.”
