Vocal Masaka diocese Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa has warned his priests against the culture of defiance.
Kaggwa who was ordaining priests said the culture of defiance has swept its way from political circles to the church.
“You have come at a time when the country is faced with a growing culture of defiance, which is not only a political proclamation, but also threatening the sanctity and unity of the Church, with different weird religious cliques coming up from amongst us,” he noted, asking the laity to resist such defiant characters.
The clergy says there are many mushrooming sects with brought strange ways of worship.
Defiance is a term made popular by FDC leader Kizza Besigye. Bishops are worried the popular culture of defiance will entrench itself into the church which values obedience.
The archdiocese of Kampala has so far dismissed two priests who “defied” Archbishop Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.
