Uganda’s unsuccessful bid to make Specioza Wandira Kazibwe chairperson of the African Union Commission should be blamed on West Africa boycott.
Dr Kazibwe speaking to CBS fm’s Alex Nsubuga said she had banked on West Africa to win but when the bloc abstained her bid fell flat.
The former vice president said Uganda government fronted her for the position and her critics should equally put in their credentials to challenge for the position in January next year in Addis Abeba.
Kazibwe however is optimistic that she promoted her country and represented well.
Kazibwe came last in the race that attracted three challengers who unfortunately all failed to reach the threshold for becoming AU Commission chairperson. Kazibwe got only 11 countries supporting her. She will need more 20 countries to back her if she will get the slot next year.
