The town clerk of Nyakyera Town council Joga Bright has commended the Uganda government for the creation of more town councils which has extended service delivery nearer to the public.
Joga noted that the new town councils have accelerated development and job creation in local communities since they are more funded than other administrative units.
Speaking at the launching of Nyakyera town council sanitation day on Thursday, he asked the town dwellers to own the launched sanitation day if they are to avoid poor sanitation related diseases.
Joga said that the council resolved that every Thursday of a 3rd week in month be put aside for the sanitation day but noting that people should promote hygiene and sanitation at their work places every day.
Nyakyera town council became operational since 1stJuly 2018 and curved out of Nyakyera sub county and it has threes wards of Kagorora, Kiziba , Kibingo and 57 cells.
However, he expressed concern over delayed funding of new town councils from central government saying that it has sabotaged a number of projects including roads and others service.
The Nyakyera catholic parish priest Rev Fr Nkamwesiga appealed to general public to embrace sanitation and hygiene as the only way to have health souls and body.
Rev Fr Nkamwesiga commended the leadership of Nyakyera town council led by Joga Bright, the town council chairperson Nganwa Kenneth and councilors for the good idea to designate a sanitation day in order to harness awareness about the dangers of living in poor environment.
The general cleaning started at Nyakyera SS play grounds and ends in Omukatooga.
