Officials from the National Environmental Management Authority are today expected to appear before the parliamentary committee on natural resources.
They are required to explain why they failed to detect the environmental abuse by investors dealing in sand mining at the shores of Lake Victoria.
The committee led by Isingiro south mp, Alex Byarugaba issued summons to the authority on Wednesday this week after queries were raised about the accredited companies.
The committee also discovered that some sand mining companies had obtained permits to undertake fish farming but instead ventured into sand mining without NEMA’s approval.
Byarugaba nows asks the government to set strict sanctions against investors who fail to comply with clearing standards issued by Uganda Investment Authority.
