Students of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) have today demonstrated over unfavorable retake policy leveled against them by the university.
The students want the university administration to reduce the retake charges from shs 50,000 to shs 20,000 per paper like in the other public universities where the retake charges don’t exceed shs 30,000.
According to the letter that was sent to the Academic Registrar’s office recently, the students asked for the lowering of the retake fee to shs 20,000 which suggestion the academic registrar declined.
The policy also requires one to repeat a year after failing more than two papers regardless of how many course units he or she offers and students also demand for the revision of such policy because there are some of them who offer more than 12 course units in a semester.
Talking to Watchdog Uganda, the Guild Prime Minister at the university, Amon Muhairwe says, as students they have many un answered questions so the demand for a peaceful solution from the university.
“We are facing various problems that may actually be solved by the shs 530,000 we pay as functional fee. In most cases when power goes off, the library and the entire institution is not accessible yet the fee would cater for the generator “said Muhairwe.
