Several members of parliament, politicians and journalists have been rounded up in Arua Town.
They have been arrested and taken to unknown places. Details are scanty on reasons for the arrests.
However state House spokesman has reported that there were violent attempts on the President’s convoy after the Monday rallies.
‘President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s car that was hit by opposition supporters this evening in Arua town. The police will issue a statement on this incident shortly”, said president Museveni senior press Secretary Mr Don Wanyama.
Security agents on Monday evening condoned Pacific and Royal hotels in Arua, searching for politicians who are largely allied to independent candidate Kasiano Wadri.
The security operation ended with candidate Kasiano Wadri, Jinja East MP Mwiru Paul, Ntungamo municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga, Kyadondo east MP Bobi Wine, Mityana municipality MP Francis Zaake, former Makindye East MP Mabikke Mike, Lubowa Henry, Eddie Mutwe and Haji Mubaraka Kawooya have been detained at different locations.
However some journalist who have been reporting on the events in Arua are reported missing.
Among journalists are NTV’ Herbert Zziwa, his driver Brian has been beaten badly, NBS’ camerman Yiga Julius Bakabaage has been hospitalised while NTV Arua correspondent is still missing. It’s not clear why journalists were rounded up in this operation since they have no side in the Arua by election.
