On Friday, Mukono Municipality legislator Betty Nambooze tabled before parliament a notice to table a private members bill to control alcoholic drinks.
Nambooze is championing one of the most difficult laws given the number of stakeholders involved and the money muscles, but the legislator says this was a public health matter.
The notice to parliament means in about three sittings of Parliament, the Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill would be on the order paper.
If the Bill comes out on the order paper next week, the legislator will go ahead to take leave to allow her consult widely on the bill which she says touches on lives of many people.
Accepting the notice to table the private members bill, Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah lamented to Nambooze that she frustrated the age limit bill from Nakifuma MP Kafeero Sekitoleko and now she was bringing hers!
Mrs Nambooze said that her bill was a public health one not about public servants retirement plans like Kafeero’s.
