The minister for Kampala City, Beti Kamya has been asked to explain the fate of vendors in the city following the commencement of the operation by Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to arrest them.

This matter was raised by Rubaga North mp, Moses Kasibante during plenary prompting the speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga to summon the minister.

According to Kasibante, KCCA and the police are still arresting vendors yet KCCA council members passed a resolution to gazette some streets specifically for vendors.

Some of these gazetted areas include Nakivubo Mews, Nakivubo road, Allen road and Kafumbe Mukasa road.

“The resolution that gazetted particular streets in Kampala on which vendors can do their work has not been respected by the minister and what is happening is harassment of people who are following the resolution that was passed. I think this is violation of human rights,” Kasibante said.
