Government has been asked to increase food relief to districts affected by drought and hunger.
Isingiro south Mp Alex Byarugaba whose area is one of the most affected says the recent food supply provided by the government was insufficient and some households were left out.
He has called for more support and asked government to avail farmers with fast maturing and drought resistant seeds.
” Government has come in rescue the situation but on a very very small scale and food provided was very inadequate, we are talking about the population of almost 45,000 people in Isingiro so what would 600 bags of maize flour do? That food is very little and we need more in order to reach out to everybody,” Byarugaba said.
“I ask the government to come in very quickly until some relief items and also some more seeds especially planting materials for potatoes and cassava to at least mitigate the process,” he added.
