Minister in charge of Kampala Beti Kamya on Monday vowed to support Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) enforcement officers to drive all vendors off Kampala streets.

“I want to empower you to resist any interference when you’re doing your job” she said.

Last week Kamya ordered vendors off the city streets with immediate effect citing that they had taken advantage of a colleague’s death to pour onto the streets.

Olivia Basemera, 38, a vendor jumped into and died in Nakivubo Channel after being confronted by KCCA enforcement officers early this month.

Meanwhile, police has promised to work with KCCA to completely send off vendors off the city streets.

Kampala Metropolitan Commander Frank Mwesigwa, says that despite the shortcomings of some the city’s enforcement officers, they are a necessary part of KCCA’s work.
