Makerere University council has insisted on not paying the incentive arrears of lecturers until the university is opened. This was revealed in a letter from the office of the chairperson of the council to the university staff.
This comes after the government releasing its portion to the wage bill as appropriated making the university the remaining party to complete its payment to the teaching staff.
According to the chairperson university council, Eng. Dr .Charles Wana Ekyem, Makerere university is unable to make its contribution due to the closure of the university.
“The purpose of this letter is to inform you that the university shall not be able to pay the salaries until the university is open and students paid fees,” stated Ekyem.
