The kampala city lord mayor Erias Lukwago has condemned the excessive brutality used by the Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA ) law enforcement team towards a poor woman who was trying to make a living on the streets of Kampala last week.
In a video which went viral on social media,the KCCA enforcement team was seen man handling a woman with her kids, carrying with a lot of force and throwing her onto their vehicle then they took her to Luzira prison.
The video drawn alot of criticism from different people who wondered how heartless the KCCA officers were.
According to Lukwago,the Authority instructed the KCCA Director for legal services and the sectoral committee to secure her release from Luzira prison where she is serving a custodial sentence of 120 days.
In his statement,Lukwago said;
” In today’s special sitting of the Authority, we strongly condemned the excessive brutality of our Law Enforcement Force and sanctioned the interdiction of all the errant individuals who dehumanised one Namugenyi Robinah and her little kids as shown in a video footage that circulated in the social media. We further instructed our Director for legal services and the sectoral committee to secure her release from Luzira prison where she is serving a custodial sentence of 120 days. They were also tasked to prepare a Bill for an Ordinance that would streamline and regulate the operations of the enforcement force, the recruitment process, training, disciplinary mechanism and other matters incidental thereto. Further remedial actions will be taken upon conclusion of the investigations which are already underway.”
