The 9thAnnual Nile Gold Jazz & Soul Safari, which will take place on Saturday October 8, 2016 at the Lugogo Cricket Oval has for the very first time introduced a new session for the festival. The new live session is called Afro Soul and Rhumba Classics.

This session will be headlined by Ugandan living music Legends; Moses Matovu, Tony Ssenkebejje and Eddy Ganja backed by a stellar cast of seasoned musicians.

“The Ugandan legends will be joined on stage by younger but very talented and successful Ugandan artists; the sultry vocalist Lillian Mbabazi and Saxophonist Michael Kitanda,” says Winston Tshaka Mayanja, the founder of the Jazz & Soul Safari.

Mayanja explains that “this ‘mix’ of our legendary elders and the young ones performing these classics on the big stage, is something we’re looking forward to a great deal. They will not only perform their classics, but classics by their peers and contemporaries.”

Apart from the Ugandan performers, this main act this year is the legendary musician Maxi Priest from the United Kingdom who will be joined by saxonist Jackiem Joyner and trumpeter, Lin Rountree.

This year’s proceeds will go to two programmes. The Rotary Cancer Center at Nsambya Hospital will continue to be supported as well as the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA). The UCA will use the money to run their league and other programmes while for the Rotary Cancer Programme, money will go towards buying a linear accelerator, a really modern cancer treatment machine.

Tickets are on sale at Sheraton Kampala Hotel, Game Stores Lugogo, Capital Shoppers Garden City and on all Payway machines at UGX130,000 for ordinary while the VIPs one are for UGX250,000. A table for 10 people in specialised chill out zones with supplementary drinks is going for UGX2.5 million.

For a cancer treatment and the support of our sports, this sounds like a cheap bargain – afterall, it is the legends and very talented artists to grace the stage. Follow the hashtag#NGJazzSafari9 and the Twitter Handle @Jazz_Safari to learn more about this concert of the year.
