Parliament has started investigation on allegations that some people are misusing ARVs drugs meant for HIV/AIDS patients and are busy feeding them to pigs to make them grow rapidly and healthy.
This follows claims by Lira farmers that they have healthy pigs which grow faster and are disease resistant because they feed them on ARVs which help to fight any diseases in the animals.
The chairperson of the parliamentary committee on HIV/AIDS issues, Judith Alyek says, if it’s true the people who commit such atrocity may be doing it ignorantly because the drug could be dangerous to the people who consume pork.
She further says that this may be the cause of many people complaining that now days the AIDS drugs are scarce.
“The Parliament is going to carryout through investigations into the matter and whoever found responsible will be arrested and imprisoned,” Aryek said.
