The lecturers under the umbrella of Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA) are jubilating after the closure of the university.
The spokesperson of MUASA,Dr. Deus Muhwezi says the closure of the university will give the council time to solve their issues.
“We did not want the university to close but we had issues, members tried to meet the university council but our issues were not addrssed but if the president has intervened we hope this will solve our problems once for all.”said Dr.Muhwezi.
President Yoweri Museveni’s directive to close the university yesterday, came after the violent strike by the students demonstrating against the academic staff’s refusal to lecture them for almost two weeks. The lecturers laid down  tools last Tuesday over non payment of their incentive arrears worth shs 28 billion.
The president ordered immediate closure of the Makerere university until further notice.
